“It was March and we were planning to use all those Airmile points to get to our favorite destination (Cook Islands) in July. No openings! Connie asked,"Will you let me try something else?""Have you ever been to the Caribbean?" We hadn't been in that region and our answer was "Yes". Our interests are active ones, snorkeling, golfing, walking, playing tennis. Connie suggested Almond Beach Village on the west coast of Barbados. This family oriented resort is a lively place that caters to travelers of all ages. With special areas and programs for toddlers through teenagers, adult and seniors can get away from it all, yet still observe the scene from the comfort of their balcony or terrace. Lovely surroundings, beautiful views, and several restaurants with excellent quality and choice make this all inclusive establishment has just the right mix. So what does Barbados and Almond Beach Village have to offer? - Barbados is a small tropical island that is easy to get to and once there navigating by public transportation is safe and easy. It has a laid back island culture, interesting native crafts, historic sights, and some beautiful scenery. The golf courses (Sandy Lane and Royal Westmoreland) are spectacular. The Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary is a wonderful wetland reserve filled with birds and excellent examples of tropical flowering plants. The exchange rate favours the Canadian dollar and it seemed that every Bajan we met had either been to or had relatives in Canada. What a change from being mistaken for our southern neighbours! - Almond Beach Village personnel are genuinely interested in tourism and their guests. For an establishment that caters to 200+ this is quite a feat. The snorkeling (turtle and fish feeding) available from the beach is great. The all inclusive plan was economical and very good value for money. The food at Enid's, The Reef, and La Smaritta is all excellent, the local beer is good. Say no to the house wines, both red and white are terrible (Bring some of your own favourites with you from Canada; we were very glad that we did). Would we return? You bet, in fact we are just trying to get those dates chosen so that Connie can work her magic for us for next year. Helen and Andrew Madill ”
